Reichman University to open a new Faculty of Medicine

The university considers the current shortage of doctors to be "critical".

The Reichman University of Herzliya will open a new medical department in 2025 in order to deal with the "critical shortage" of doctors in Israel and "a health crisis caused by the war," said the Minister of Universities and Education, Yoav Kisch.

The four-year training offered by the Faculty of Medicine Dina Recanati will begin in February with nearly 80 students, followed by a second cohort in November 2025.

This medical school – a partnership between the Sheba Hospital in Tel Hashomer, Rabin Hospital, Clalit and Maccabi health funds and the university – is designed to "guarante Israel's people with quality health care in the years ahead," the university said.

The founding president and chairman of the board of directors of Reichman University, Professor Uriel Reichman, said the university was "mobilizing to offer more opportunities" for medical studies in Israel.

"Training the next generation of doctors is a vital mission for Israeli society," he continued.

Kisch added that the opening of this medical school was a "success and a crucial step in ensuring the sustainability of health care in Israel".

This new medical school will provide clinical training in community medicine as early as the first week of the program, the university said. Medical students will also have the opportunity to integrate entrepreneurship into training.

The Israeli Higher Education Council authorized the opening of the school after a thorough examination of the case, which was sanctioned by the standards it imposed.

L’université Reichman d’Herzliya va ouvrir un nouveau département de médecine en 2025 de façon à faire face à la « pénurie critique » de médecins en Israël et à « une crise sanitaire provoquée par la guerre », a déclaré le ministre des Universités et de l’Éducation, Yoav Kisch.

La formation de quatre ans offerte par la faculté de médecine Dina Recanati commencera en février prochain avec près de 80 étudiants, suivis d’une deuxième cohorte en novembre 2025.

Cette école de médecine – un partenariat entre le centre hospitalier Sheba de Tel Hashomer, l’hôpital Rabin, les caisses de santé Clalit et Maccabi et l’université – est conçue pour « garantir aux habitants d’Israël des soins de santé de qualité dans les années à venir », a déclaré l’université.

Le président fondateur et président du conseil d’administration de l’Université Reichman, le professeur Uriel Reichman, a déclaré que l’université « se mobilisait pour offrir davantage de possibilités » d’études médicales en Israël.

« Former la prochaine génération de médecins est une mission vitale pour la société israélienne », a-t-il poursuivi.

Cette nouvelle école de médecine offrira une formation clinique en médecine communautaire dès la première semaine du programme, a indiqué l’université. Les étudiants en médecine auront également l’occasion d’intégrer l’entrepreneuriat en cours de formation.

Le Conseil israélien de l’enseignement supérieur a autorisé l’ouverture de cette école à l’issue d’un examen approfondi du dossier sanctionné par le respect des normes qu’il impose.
